Wales in a Day

A whole country from top to bottom in just one day! 185 miles and 4500 metres of ascent!

On the 22nd of July a team of 6 cyclists from local cycling club Roundhouse Rouleurs are cycling from the picturesque town of Caernarfon to Chepstow, taking in the Llanberis and Gospel Pass. Gareth is a keen member of the support team for the day. The objective is to not only complete this epic day of riding but also to raise vital funds for the local children’s hospice Ty Gobaith.

Ty Gobaith is a beautiful ‘home from home’ for poorly children and their families. If you would like to donate please click on the link.  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gareth-hughes24

New Lidl store proposed for Llandudno Junction

We at Gareth Hughes & Co are excited by the recent news of the supermarket chain Lidl planning to open a new store close to our offices in Llandudno Junction. Above is the first image of what the planned store will look like. The plan is to build the supermarket on the site of the former Arriva bus depot and Daily Post / Weekly News offices.

A local newspaper quoted a Lidl spokesperson as saying “The substantial investment in the community will see Lidl building a sustainable 1424 square metre store with plans to create up to 40 new jobs locally”.

Tax-Free Childcare rolled out

Tax-Free Childcare, the new government scheme to help working parents with the cost of childcare, launched on 28 April 2017.

For every £8 a parent pays in, the government will pay in an extra £2. Parents can receive up to £2,000 per child, per year, towards their childcare costs making a total amount of £10,000. Higher limits of £4,000 and £20,000 apply for disabled children.

To qualify for Tax-Free Childcare all parents in the household must generally meet a minimum income level, based on working 16 hours a week (on average £120 a week) and each earn less than £100,000 a year.

The scheme will be available for children up to the age of 12, or 17 for children with disabilities. All eligible parents will be able to join the scheme by the end of 2017. Parents will be able to apply for all their children at the same time although the government rollout will start with the youngest children first. Parents will need to open an online account, which they can use to pay for childcare from a registered provider.
